No two Practice CrossFit coaches are the same.

Some are reserved, others over the top, some boldly brief while others excessively conversational. While their personalities may be different, their passion to help others isn’t. Each and every Practice CrossFit coach does what they do because they like to see their friends successful.

In 2007, I opened Practice CrossFit and began writing about health and fitness. It could have, maybe should have ended there; a trainer gone rogue writing about coaching people he enjoys.

Now CrossFit is a juggernaut with an unstoppable following, and I’m proud to be part of it.

My motivation then is the same as it is today; introduce fitness to those in need, any way I can. Be it coaching a squat, writing an article, or working to bring The CrossFit Games to the world. Fitness, our fitness, is simply too important to keep secret.

Starting at Practice CrossFit changed my life.

It was like finally turning on a bright light after years of darkness. It was the only thing that really clicked with me. It gave me the power to overcome every obstacle. The ability to accomplish things that never before would have seemed possible.

CrossFit taught me that failure is not the opposite of success, but part of it. I have never been so invested in fitness, well-being, health, and nutrition. Not only do I love applying it to my own life, but I also absolutely love helping others. Because of this, I decided to get my NASM Certification and further that into L1 CrossFit. I want to continue learning every single day. I want to make a difference. I want to change YOUR life the way Practice CrossFit has changed mine. I can’t wait to be a part of your journey.

My life is my message to the world and I want my message to be fun, healthy, inspiring, positive and (sometimes) loud!

In 2009, I discovered Practice CrossFit; a home where I knew I could be myself.

I was able to have fun, be healthy, have a positive attitude and always be loud. But it wasn’t until a couple years later, when I became a coach, that I was finally able to inspire and help people like I’d always wanted.

If I teach you something that makes you a better athlete, that’s cool (and important to me) but now I know better. I know that when you feel better, perform better and have more confidence, you’re not just a better athlete, you’re a better person.

Ultimately, being a Practice CrossFit coach gives me the opportunity to help you decide what your message will be and I’m grateful for the opportunity.

Crossfit is my answer to how I am able to keep myself and my clients inspired and motivated. After spending seven years competing in the NPC (National Physique Committee) and the IFBB (International Federation of Bodybuilding), I was ready for a new challenge.  I needed something to give me a renewed love for pushing my body to its limits and ultimately inspiring my clients to dream bigger goals that seem beyond them and challenge them to push physically to a new level of growth.

Born and raised in “small-town” Kentucky, I have a special love for those people who start at ground zero. Those who have reached a point where all they no is they need to change and ARE READY for a better quality of life. I absolutely love helping open their lives up to so much more than they ever thought possible.

Being a collegiate basketball player, five year high school basketball coach and spending 1 season with the Ohio State Football team has rooted a desire to train and coach student athletes as well. Just as the individual that is ready for the next level of better living, the athletes that want to compete and compete to the very best of his/her ability is an incredible inspiration to me.

A quote that is pinned to the office wall at Practice Crossfit reads, “The goal isn’t to live forever it’s to create something that will.” My greatest desire in life is give of myself to others in a way that touches and changes their families for generations past my own life. Training/coaching is just one way I do that.

I wasn’t a kid athlete.  I don’t have a long list of fitness or nutrition credentials.  I’m a late-life masters athlete who’s been broken and out several times in my short career.  And while I’ve tasted the CrossFit Regionals, I’ve never played in the CrossFit Games…yet.

But as a consultant, knowing people is my business.  With deep roots in teaching, guiding and motivating others through experiences that help them achieve a personal sense of “better” is my passion.  CrossFit merged these two paths for me in 2008 in a space I was already spending tons of free time – the world of fitness – creating for me a daily opportunity to partner with adults and kids on being, truly, healthy and well.

While a part-time role in the corporate world still feeds me, CrossFit and a future in health and life coaching fuel me.  The human mind and body are amazing, and the geek inside of me digs learning about the control we have, as individuals, to heal them, fuel them and adapt them for “better”.  I’m grateful to be a part of a community so dedicated to empowering people with the information and inspiration they need to improve their physical performance.  And I take pride in the chance I’m given, each day, to be one of the many sharing it.

In 2007, I was introduced to CrossFit with a couplet of “burpees” and dumbbell thrusters. I swore I’d never return, the challenge was too great, my inabilities were too obvious.

Now, years later I find myself still walking in day after day for more. What was an eye opening experience for me has become a better way of Life. A version of life so great that I now have to share it with others.

In 2011, I received my CrossFit Level 1 Certificate and have shared the CrossFit lifestyle with all who will listen!

My desire is to show people the better version of themselves. To show them that there is more to life than simply surviving.

2014, after months of my best friend bugging me to try CrossFit, I gave in and took my first class. Now I’m not a gym rat; I get bored on the machines. I’m not into Zumba; I can’t dance even though I’ll bust a move at 5am WOD. And before that class I was completely against CrossFit for the sole reason that everyone else was doing it.

But the minute that workout was over, I knew I had found something special. This was my first real exposure to CrossFit, and looking back now, I had no idea how much this choice would positively impact my life and the lives of people around me.

What I love most about CrossFit is that it inspires us to dream of what we’re capable of when pushed. You don’t have to be a gifted athlete; you just have to have the drive for self-improvement. Any one in any box of life can do this – And that’s what I hope to show others.
