Something I forgot to tell you about Paleo
A friend of mine told me that clear writing begins with clear thinking. She’s right of course, but there’s more to it than that. Clear thinking begins with clean eating.
I’m in a hurry a lot, answering questions, asking twice as many, lots about food, supplements, and competitions. It’s fun really – challenging. But when your in a hurry all the time you leave out the simple. And most of the time it seems like the simple cure, the basic explanation, can save the most trouble and the most people.
She’s one of those girls with see through eyes. You can see clear through to her heart. If her day was great, they light up the room like the first glint of morning sun, if it wasn’t, you want to hug her. By the time I saw her I could tell it just wasn’t her kinda day.
“I just don’t know what to do,” she began. This was pretty common, she gets confused a lot. And her ordeal wasn’t much of one, in fact I think she’s more than a little dramatic. If life was a play she’d win an Oscar because every act is like a great death scene.
I like her though, lots of passion and noise.
Her problem was exchanging one good job, for another good job. Told ya, not really much of a problem when compared to some folks are without a job, or those with really bad ones.
She explained herself, her reasons for wanting to go and reasons for why she should stay. “What do you think I should do?,” she asked. “Stay put,” I said.
She wasn’t shocked as much as annoyed.
“How do you always do that?,” she asked. “How can you be so sure?”
It didn’t hit me all at once. It was more like getting drunk; happy – buzzed – belligerent. But by the next day I remember exactly when decisions came easier, choices not so difficult. It was sometime after I found Paleo living. Something my friend has struggled with since I have known her.
I’m not saying that I don’t have my doubts and second guesses. I am saying though, that a rarely talked about symptom of crappy eating is cloudy thinking. It makes senses more than we give it credit.
Bad drugs – bad choices.
It’s pretty simply to see how Paleo eating cures fat, auto-immune’s, and even cancers. But until you’ve tried it, until you have really given up poison for pleasure, you’ll never really know how clear you can think, how good you can understand people, the relationships you can build.
I texted my friend and told her one of the reasons I make choices easier than she does was because I eat better than her. “You’ll try anything to get me to eat Paleo won’t you?,” she replied. I guess she didn’t get it.
Has Paleo eating made you think more clearly?

5am was awesome! 5×5 deadlift PR’s this morning!! Tyrone, Ryan, Jody, Krissy, Debbie and that was pretty much the whole class! -minus Michelle who had to leave early… Good work you guys worked exceptionally hard!
Great post! Eating Paleo keeps me aware of my body. I know when I’m truly tired and exhausted; the difference between healthy and sick, therefore I know when to trust my decisions, When clarity is heightened and energy is at its fullest.
AND, Debbie Alexander is looking TOO good! When you see her let her know you can notice her hard work! Awesome, Deb
Chas I totally agree. When I’m paleo I’m much more in tune with what’s going on with my body. If I’ve had anything else and then don’t feel good or have a pain I always have to wonder if its the food that caused it… and often times it is. I also feel mentally stronger, tougher, and able to accomplish whatever I need to, simply because being I’m in control of myself. Knowing you aren’t giving into temptations is empowering.
