Testimonial: We play games on Saturday’s

The way CrossFit makes strangers into family is almost scary. One day you turn around and it seems like you have know them forever. Reading the story below makes me feel like that.

Our Crossfit box likes to play games on Saturdays.

The concept of “playing” is a relatively new concept for me, a women of almost fifty! I grew up in a household where there was not a lot of “playing”. I never played organized sports and my family is mostly about working and doing for others. My kids participated in sports but I was a spectator in those days.

Last Saturday was a great day for me. I actually played and our team won one of the relays! My son was the leader of our group and I finally got to feel what it was like to successfully compete and have FUN!

Two years ago I was invited to WOD at 5 AM with a co-worker and friend. I was pretty stagnant before this and went home in tears many mornings thinking I just could not keep up! I am not a quitter so I kept coming back thinking someday I will get better! The family atmosphere and encouraging friends at PCF helped tremendously!

On Thanksgiving day 2010 I practically begged my adult son to go along with me to WOD.

He loved playing sports in high school and from the first day he walked into PCF he loved it! He quickly caught on to the techniques and as he leaned out, he started to compete and went on to get his training certificate! I, on the other hand, continued to struggle through every WOD. I was negative and scared and heard voices in my head saying that I could not do it! With the love and support of my son and the help of the wonderful trainers I have finally started to see some very subtle improvements.

My attitude started changing and I began to “learn to play”! I became “addicted” to the WOD’s, the CF blogs, the CF Games! Ty and I drove my husband crazy talking about CF! My daughter told me that we had “drank the kool-aid”!

Crossfit means so much to me and my family! I can’t even put into words what it has done for us. We are happier, have more confidence and feel physically and mentally healthy! My relationship with my son is so supportive! He is a good role model for me, eating paleo and WODing once or twice a day!

Our family eats better, we sleep better and now we WOD together! If you would have asked me two years ago if I would have been “playing” on a Saturday morning I would have said you were crazy, “I’m almost fifty years old! I don’t play!”! Well, guess what, I love Saturday mornings and I love to play!

“Play”. I dig the concept of CF as a “game”. Approaching it that way might remedy some of its unhealthy, addictive qualities.

Cannot forget your start week Teri Gaulker. Keep reminding yourself how hard it was in order to stay focused on your health through the holidays.

Great class led by the Davis clan. Good to see everyone sticking around for auxiliary and even extended work. Loved the festive outfits some of you were sporting as well.

Have a wonderful Christmas everyone. Justin and I count our blessings daily and are so grateful for all of you.
