My dad on Paleo
Matt’s dad showed up for our Paleo seminar and challenge that followed. The story below shows a man who did more than just listen, he came to play.

I have food issues. Spend a day with my mom or dad and you will quickly see that we can seemingly find a way to work a meal or snack into almost anything. Boredom, habit, whatever, we like to eat and we do it well – or poorly so it seems.
My dad and I are very close. The older I grow the more I realize what a remarkable man and father he has been and continues to be. As with anyone, the issues of my family seem like a virtual “rabbit hole” of never-ending crap that continues to build.
My Parents are divorced, and A few months ago, I talked to both my parents about attending the DEDS seminar. Dad came, mom made an excuse. During the speech, dad was very attentive and engaged. Later, I found out he had been taking mental notes.
When we left, he talked about he knew what his “reason” was; on the ”sickness, wellness, fitness” chart, All of the numbers that were drawn on the board under the “sickness” side were his numbers according to his recent dr. visit one month prior to beginning the challenge.
He started the challenge on December 1, with his wife (who has MS) and together the began exercising in their home every night. Not much to the moderate athlete, but for my dad that was a REALLY big deal. His weight was 256 the day he started the challenge. His BP was 209/105.
This morning, December 24, 2012, As I was driving home from the grocery, dad texted me and said that he had lost 20 pounds. He was 236 lbs. and his BP was 117/68.
He feels great and has lots of energy. He told me that he plans on continuing the course and wants to get to 220.
He also told me that now he has a better shot at seeing his grandchildren growing up. I’m a big strong man and that put tears in my eyes. He continues to be a remarkable father, one that I want to model myself after.
Thank you for this wonderful Christmas gift.

Awesome, awesome, awesome, Matt!! I saw your dad at the seminar… What a wonderful follow up story! I look forward to another update in a month or two
Wow! When I met your dad that day he was quiet, but said he was willing to listen. No doubt he was already 85% of the way to taking action, simply, because of your walking testimony. Great news.
And don’t give up on your mom. Sometimes it’s the tenth time that’s the charm. Just keep bein the example.
Thanks for sharing.
Awesome….
