Stop being healthy right now
Being healthy today is more scary than being sick. At least when your sick you know what your up against.
Healthy today is about as confusing as a crossword puzzle in a foreign language and the proof is right there in your timeline.
“I am so proud of myself today,” her Facebook status began. “I spent 1.5 hours in the gym before a ‘healthy’ breakfast of low-fat jam, half an english muffin, bacon, and oatmeal with fruit. Hmmm-good.” To add insult to injury, she is a CrossFitter, and she is overweight trying not to be.
Now, if you love yourself some jam and think english muffins are just this side of the promise land then I won’t stand in your way. But, calling it healthy is where the issue begins, believing it’s healthy is where the train really falls off the tracks and the disaster that was only hurting you starts hurting others.
Sadly,I think she truly believes her actions are ‘healthy’. If the devils biggest success is convincing man he doesn’t exist, then the food media’s biggest win is simply making healthy so fuzzy that we all think we are “it” even though we don’t really know what “it” is.
“That’s just what I have been told,” she responded to a private message I sent her asking, “can you you explain to me what you think is healthy about your status?” She even went so far as to say she had read a lot and studied and that this seemed to be the healthiest options she could find.
Some humans are vicious liars and selfish time wasters. I don’t believe this was the woman above. She is one of those people that keeps me up at night. The ones who are really struggling with what is truth, and what is lie. The ones who can’t decide what’s healthy, and what’s not. People that don’t know will always be the responsibility of those who do.
And truthfully this blog is not trying to help the ones that are already damned and refuse to give up the lie they live even though they know better. This blog is about zero tolerance and exploration. It’s about searching for one truth, not multiple versions we can sell. It’s about one version we can live by, one code we can give freely to all those poor souls like the woman above.
CrossFit defined fitness as work capacity across broad time and module domain. Thereby defining health as the ability to maintain that work capacity throughout the course of our entire lives. Anything that diminishes that quality, isn’t healthy.
Supplement salesmen pitching healthy in a bottle, vegetarians who believe the garden is better than the ranch, and authors who have the latest and greatest diet book on the shelves are the ones doing the job of the media today. Their the ones adding to the “healthy” propaganda and making a dime off confusion. Those are the voices we must silence with our behavior.
Stop being healthy-be fit.
Stop eating healthy-eat paleo.
Stop choosing the healthier alternative-there is no “healthier” there is right, and there is wrong.
Stop being and doing everything that is healthy by today’s widely accepted standards and you may not live longer, but you’ll live better.

I know what you mean, often when in the orthodontist office I flip through Self magazine or healthy living only to be applaud with the diets they are recommending, to think I used to believe this is crazy! Thankful for the education you and CrossFit have given me!!’
I’ve rode that train before, but always a yoyo effect. Having been exposed to CrossFit and Paleo I tend to do my own research some times on the scientific level. My though is that eat what God has naturally provided. I honestly love the overhaul that has been done in my fridge/cupboards.

frustrating morning
I wanna do this again…sad, but true!
Every time I do this WOD I always remember one of the MANY times I’ve done this one…
I just got back from a 2 week training for work. I ate like crap, drank, and Josh knew it! I felt like crap the entire way through but specifically remember getting to the burpees. I wanted to stop, I thought I was going to ralph, and I was on the verge of tears (I’m not a cry’n type either!). Josh was sitting on the medicine ball right in my face so that every time I hit the floor he’d push me to keep moving.
Josh has motivated me in so many more ways than that but that day was probably one of my worst and he was there to get me through it as he has even still yet to this day, even when we are at different boxes.
As always, thank you to Josh and all of my PCF family for being there…nol just during the filfty fifty!
Filthy isn’t a favorite of mine… but I got thru it with an awesome and huge class!!

Cool story Ash. You were one the first to inspire me at PCF. I was like I want to be like her!

Congrats to the virgin Filthiers…esp Shelby who walked in the door scared. Great job not lettin’ those burpees beat you. I’m gonna ask to see your log book next time!
