Push or pull

Convenience store doors give directions-”Pull”, when you enter. “Push”, when you leave. We are meant to enter empty handed, and leave full.

I notice little things like that all the time and I frequently ponder what Speedway is trying to tell me. Speedway, or God, or my erratic psyche that can’t shut up. “Why do I need directions on a door,” I often question. If it has a handle, I would pull, if not, I wouldn’t. If I tried one option and failed, I would try the only other logical option before just breaking it down.

There is never a time where we are not actively being told something, we just don’t listen. I know I am a dollar sign meant to be profited off of just about everywhere I go. I look for the signs, I try to avoid the pitfalls. We are suppose to leave with stuff whenever we go anywhere. Except for CrossFit, CrossFit asks you to enter with everything, and leave without anything.

Your CrossFit door is direction-less. It doesn’t tell you how to open it, in fact, if it’s anything like PCF’s 1940′s green barn door it’s a puzzle. A fitness Rubik cube that our minds makes more difficult than it really is….”Push” or “Pull”, it doesn’t matter how you enter, it matters that you enter.

When you finally enter your CrossFit door, your too fat, you hardly fit, your beaten bloody, allergic, sick. Your hands are so full you have to put your back into the door, it barley moves because your strength sucks, and yet, somehow, you make it in. Once in, you die a little, you live a little more. You leave everything you entered with on the floor. Your hands, your mind, your hearts is emptied.

That pattern will continue. You will collect junk form every conveniently located establishment in your path, work, home, whatever. You will be sold to, lied to, and burdened. Then, you will push the CrossFit door open, and you leave it all behind. CrossFit will take what the day has forced upon you, CrossFit will be the only place we all leave empty handed and rich.

Your blogs are just damn refreshing. So much of Cross-fit gets repeated…and even though there is “nothing new under the sun”…your perspectives make it feel new…… Keep it real. Its very cool.

TGUs…not a fan of this movement…I think because it requires one to slow down and focus to do it well. however, i must say it was cool to watch PCF-ers take this on today especially those who took on the challenge of the KBs and bars.

interesting, as well, to watch some pretty solid DL form across classes today given that the movement comes up infrequently.

tyler…good to see you back in.
