Few foods are as simple and as universal as the egg. They are great in a pinch, rich in iodine, cheap, and full of protein. They also may be keeping those last few pounds of junk in your trunk.
Back here I wrote about lysozyme, an enzyme found in the white of eggs that can causes issues from hives to acne and much more. Since then, and since I didn’t seem to have an issue, I haven’t really given eggs much thought-until I stopped eating them.
For years I have been including eggs in diets I manufacture for athletes all over the world. For years and years I ate around six eggs every day along with pounds of meat. For the last three weeks I haven’t had a single premature chicken, and it’s made a difference.
It started with a CrossFit competition, and a cold. I returned from a weekend of close quarters CrossFit a little worse for wear, not sick really just head clogged. As I often do, I experimented with a few things and I watched a few others. I noted that more creatine does nothing, Rocksauce doesn’t work like Vick’s vapor rub, and every time I ate eggs, my nose felt like it was going to explode.
As soon as I stopped eating eggs my symptoms turned to little more than blowing my nose in the morning. Also, I lost four pounds.
Now four pounds isn’t a lot really, and if I took the calipers out to measure each fold of skin its likely that the loss won’t even show up on paper. But where four pounds of fat may be no big deal, four pounds of inflammation is.
Some of you out there who have a single ass-dimple that you can’t stand to see in the mirror because it cheapens your ultra-fit exterior, will give up eggs and it might go away, and only you would know-awesome. Some of you will find that the lack of variety is worth it because all of the sudden foggy mornings go away and stuffy nights disappear. Some of you will learn the most important truth about tossing the egg-a little goes a long way.
Most likely eliminating eggs for days, or weeks, or even intermittently will not shed pounds and pounds of fat or cure seven cancers, but it might click back the inflammation odometer. And less inflammation is a few seconds off your next workout, a few kilo’s stronger and a better nights sleep.
