Praying for patience takes too long

Sep 20, 2012 9 Comments by

I prayed for patience once. I waited, got bored, got angry, gave up. Patience and I go as far back as I can remember. I dislike him now, I didn’t like him then, at least now I think I get him.

By no means is patience evil or trivial, or spiteful or even emotional. Patience is usually worthless though. Patience means nothing if it’s mis-gudied. No matter how patient you are, if your headed in the wrong direction, you won’t get where you want to go.

About that time patience becomes waiting, waiting then becomes procrastinating. Forget praying for patience, it will always be an easy virtue to accept if you want it. Patience will always come measured by the barrel full if your prayers are for guidance.

To be guided is to give up control. It looks like following the voice telling you to run from your job, not to continue on because you have a mortgage. It looks like speaking up in a crowd when you know you will be hated because remaining quiet-patient, often leads to missteps and lost opportunities for salvation-believe me, I know this well.

Guidance is a selfless prayer that says, “take over, I am willing even if it hurts.” Patience says, “I am in control and I can weather this storm.”

I pray for guidance and it reminds me of walking to the light switch in a pitch black room-you run into things all the time. But when you get there, you can finally see. Praying for patience is sitting in the same dark room waiting, hoping for someone to come in and turn the lights on for you.

Be guided, be impatient.

9am-ers did some good work with this wod despite all the pre-wod groaning.

we missed tyrone, but stephen stepped up as the token male and held his own in the hen’s nest this AM.

a number of positives this morning besides steve’s great sense of humor…

jen w…the best bears in the class. very strong.

tamra…way to push yourself today. i know you took the weight down but your pace made up for it. great work.

colleen/renee…thank you for being role models for staying healthy today.

jill…beautiful squats and nice job conquering a 400m run i know you weren’t lookin forward to.

terra…love when you can make time for us. enjoyed you partnering up to keep colleen safe on squats. you really pushed yourself on the sprints.

andrea jones…back squatting 101….YELL FOR A SPOT BEFORE YOU START THE SET! and i’d rather you skip the last set than rush between the final heavies and pull another tyler. but you did work hard today, girlfriend. ;)
