It only takes 3%

As soon as we decide to change something about ourselves, amazingly, even simply, we can. As Mindy shows us below, it takes so little to make a big difference that can change our lives, and the lives of everyone around us.

The following is authored by: Mindy Coby

Ever read the ingredients in rat poison? Whether you have or not, you do know one thing about it- its lethal. But do you know what percentage of its ingredients are actually toxic? Three percent. Who would’ve thought that just 3% of something could do so much damage?

Think about the “toxins” in your life. Cigarettes, alcohol, food. We’re all exposed to bad elements that influence us negatively. We rationalize that if we take them in small doses it can’t be that bad. Rat poison is proof that small doses pack a big punch. Does one more drink ever really stop at that one drink?

Think about the people you’re surrounded by on a daily basis. Family, coworkers, colleagues, customers. Are these people positive individuals, looking to build up everyone around them? Or do you find yourself surrounded by those who would rather complain, blame, and gossip about others to pass time? Maybe it’s just one individual that exhibits these habits. Maybe you tolerate it because “they’re still a good person most of the time.” But again, small percentages cause big damage.

Perhaps it’s not even people or habits that get you, but the constant media that were surrounded by 24/7. Whatever it is that pulls you down, you’ve got to recognize it, treat it like the poison it is, and eliminate it from your life. Quit eating in the break room to avoid the gossip. Cancel the cable TV if it keeps you from interacting with your family or taking care of bigger tasks.

The poisons that take us down are never the obvious ones. They are deceiving. The are disguised as “mostly good”, and bring us down just a little bit at a time. Surround yourself with people that will build you up. Read from the bible or a devotional multiple times a day if it’ll keep you focused. Post pictures and quotes that remind you of the person you want to be so you won’t be swayed by others. Slash the 3% of your day thats holding you back and learn what 100% of incredible feels like.
