Building a coalition

Sep 17, 2012 20 Comments by

The only lone voice that can be heard within the masses are the words of a psychopath. The rest of us yearning for change and acknowledgment need more than one whisper riding the wind, we need the roar of friends.

I don’t have patience for politics. I don’t know the issues and when it comes to government office I see only two options, run for it, or burn it. Everything else, talking, complaining, watching-pointless. Recently I listened to a sort of public service announcement explaining lobbyists and their various roles in Washington. A delegate was asked by a voter, “how can my (one) voice be heard?” The delegate said, “if your not a lobbyist with connections, resources, money and fame, then you need to build a coalition.

Americans hate this sort of honesty. But matter how just the freedom fighter he will fail if he doesn’t get more soldiers to believe and die for his cause. Think Jesus, think King, think Lincoln.

Five years ago, CrossFit had no Army, but today is different, today CrossFitter’s have a voice. A voice the country is hearing loud and clear. Just look at all the new folks tying to profit off us everyday. Five years ago, the phone never rang, today, I am tempted to take it off the hook. In the past I would ask for things we needed, today I demand things I know will make others heal.

Our platform is health, now we need to put someone in office.

It’s time to introduce CrossFit style legislation. CrossFitters are the walking and talking examples for community out reach, nutrition, fitness, charity, and a spirit of “can” that is contagious. We have brought the limelight to us, now we need to keep it bright, and shine it on the planet.

With rep after rep, and Fran after Fran the road lies paved with the sweat of a billion workouts. The only way to lose integrity now is to leave the that road. To keep fighting the good fight, just CrossFit. Never stop preaching, making converts and building a coalition that we can march to the steps of the whitest house in the country shouting, drowning out the voices of those sucking the life from our beautiful nation. Or, act like the reigning majority; do the opposite of what you say, live beyond your means, and pick on the other guy so that no one notices how bad you suck.

I am taking votes now- CrossFitter for President.

The Ranch was an awesome first exposure for me to Crossfit. Up till now it was just something my son Erik did.

What struck me the most was the DIY grassroots nature of the beast. In fact, it looked a lot to me like something I am more familiar with, the OpenSource hardware and software movement, embodied in things like Hackerspaces, Maker Faires, and Linux OS.

Jono Bacon is one of the leading gurus of the open source geeks. His book, The Art of Community is a great resource for channeling grassroots energy, emotion, and yes, raw anger.

Like Jono Bacon, I told Erik that was clear from the Ranch that Practice’s JB gets it–it’s all about the community.

9:15 RX I think….. due to busy schedules, I had to roll solo on this one at PHS before basketball workouts this a.m.. I think i ended up running 600m and 300m. All I know is that when I finished I was huddled down in the corner like Tim Tebow so I know I must have done it right. Its kinda funny, I act like I hate these hard of workouts, but In all reality us CF’ers all have a place inside of us( some larger than others) that really loves getting punished. So thanks for the punishment JB!!

I just realized that today marks my 2nd anniversary of my Cross Fit journey! And what an amazing journey it has been so far. When I came into this I wasn’t expecting to meet such AMAZING people who would become so important to me. I can’t imagine what my life would be like without CF & PCF family. I just wanted to take this time and Thank everyone that has helped me along the way whether your a trainer or an athlete I am forever greatful to have you in my life.

I think the ranch is a great reminder of where we all have come from and how much stranger wind up caring for one another…I’m always sad when it ends…

Scotty actually stuck around to do Pistols….not that everyone else didn’t also, but Scotty and auxiliary don’t often mix…fun class.

Hey all!! So great to see so many of you last weekend…and to watch some of you out there kickin’ some serious tail! Nice work!!!

I know I am not technically a PCFer now, but today also marks my 2 year CF journey…and it all started with PCF! Its amazing how deeply that first day is stained on my memory! I wouldn’t be where I am today without the experiences PCF gave, and still gives, to me. Nearly 9 months later, I still miss PCFers every day, and crave the time when a CF box will once again be a part of our lives….Lu reminds me all the time that I have yet to get her back to kids CF!! :-) So, as Renee said, thank you all for the journey, and thank you all for the role you have played in my life! It means so very much!
