It’s been a while since I gave you flowers

“Oh, what are those for”, she says as I push a bundle of colorful somethings in front of her with a smile. “Well, it’s just been a while since I gave you flowers”, I said.

Flowers will die. Roses will be forgotten. Sweet gestures replaced with daily habits. Doesn’t matter…give em anyway.

This week I saw a friend get a muscle-up for the first time. Then show it to his wife for the second time.

Its already been the third conversation of the new year where the individual already accomplished one of their main goals, and they couldn’t be happier.

A girl who had never climbed a rope, climbed a rope…twice.

The Paleo diet drastically changed someones life two years ago. She has no background, shes not a trainer, she has a full-time job. Now she sets up “talks” with friends to help save them.

A CrossFitter in need asked another for help. The response was communal, not solo.

One forwarded email tells of a Father buying new clothes and feeling a million times better because his son turned him onto the CrossFit+Paleo lifestyle he enjoys.

A Mother cried when she told me how her young son rushed home to tell her he was picked first instead of last on the football field. He has been a CrossFit kid for six months.

Three years ago an amazing woman started doing pull-ups with multiple bands. This week the entire box cheered when she did one band-free.

A resident far away from our little slice of heaven is cancer free today. Maybe in part to the radical diet change and weight-loss she experienced after a CrossFitter said, “this is what saved me, you should try it”.

A new CrossFit box opened somewhere. We are planting the earth.

I’m thankful for the flowers I get all the time. Hopefully, these brighten your day as much as they do mine.

I love this post too….. Makes me teary! I’m so emotional!!!

  7. Cindy says:

Are you seriously saying that CrossFit “Saves” people? You are among the silliest CF Gyms I have come across. I think it is a tie between you and the Mormons for funniest beliefs on Earth right now.

If this post made you emotional then I pity you and you make all women look bad.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I respect that

      BUT…….

I completely relate to Nikki, I am not the most emotional person however, I did tear up when I read…” Three years ago an amazing woman started doing pull-ups with multiple bands. This week the entire box cheered when she did one band-free.”
I am so over the top excited for this athlete and the progress she has made. She gives me a ton of inspiration and motivatation by her quiet, strong dedicaiton to herself and her goals…acheiving things that at some point she probably didn’t think were attainable.

I don’t think that anyone is saying that CrossFit in and of itself “saves” anyone….it’s all about the community. I only know that one major thing that keeps me coing back to PCF is the community within our box and the committment that we all have to one another. I have said this before…i have NEVER experienced anything that matches it.

Please don’t pity us! It is something you have to experience to understand. I think we are all quite happy with this blog, our trainers, our fellow athletes and the community that is Practce CrossFit!

      • Cindy says:

The direct quote from the blog is “Now she sets up “talks” with friends to help save them.” so how am I misreading that?

So you come back for the community? You don’t come back for the workout or the fitness or the life changing behavior?

Yes, I too am excited that she is getting pullups and I think that is absolutely an amazing feat! I wish more people had her dedication! I just don’t think that I would cry about it…

        • Shelly says:

Of course I come back for the workout and the fitness which equates to life changing behavior…it is just a HUGE added bonus that our community is BEYOND AMAZING.
And yeah, I’m a girl, I have estrogen..someties I get emotional and I’m totally okay with that.

          • Cindy says:

Between you and Nikki J, you make women look like a bunch of cry babies. I can’t believe that you are using being a girl as an excuse to get emotional.

          • Shelly says:

            Cindy,
I invite you to come wod next to Nikki, myself or any other of our stellar female athletes and let you decide how much of a misstatement you are making. Have a great weekend!

          • Krissy says:

            Cindy,
What’s wrong with being emotional? Have you never done something that’s moved you to tears, or witnessed someone accomplish a feat that was once thought unreachable? Obviously not. Showing emotion is a natural reaction. If you knew anything about PCF and the community it’s built, you’d know that we are not a bunch of cry-babies. We celebrate together our accomplishments, whether inside the box or out. If the celebration includes tears…so be it! You have no clue what you’re talking about.

      • Nikki j says:

        Great response Shelly!!!!

And to “Cindy”, Thank you for your opinion, but I do not need your “pity”. I am a strong woman who simply gets excited about the successes of those I care about. I certainly do not think that should make “all women look bad”.
Sure hope you have a great day…..

Sorry that I missed it this morning. It’s been a loooooooooong week, and I was way behind on sleep.

Hopefully I’ll get to see some of you tomorrow morning.

This has been one hell of a week for posts. Whether they challenge me, anger me, make me happy or instrospective, I am glad for this daily reminder to keep myself in check.

    Thanks for your words jb.

  10. cindylou says:

I agree with Shelly, everyone is allowed their opinion….with that being said here is mine.

Coming from another Cindy Lou that actually is a part of PCF…you clearly have never met any of our PCF Ladies….because if you had Cindy, you would never feel bad for any of us.

PCF women support otheres more than I have ever seen women support each other in my life. How many othe CrossFit gyms have a weekly group devoted to the women within the gym that meets outsife of the box? As a mother that has seen CrossFit help build apon my 14 year old daughters foundation by letting her see just how strong she can be….
And the community that we have within our CrossFit gym is life changing…you might not think so and that is okay.

I have been a part of this CF box for almost a year…and it has changed my life. And I feel sorry for you if you cant allow yourself to see and accept that CrossFit and the people within a great CrossFit Box can change lives.

My life, my heath and my faith in people have all been changed by CrossFit and the people within Practice CrossFit….and like Shelly said, dont feel sorry for us at all….We are happy …we are proud…we are strong…and we at Practice CrossFit will contiune to keep changing lives through CrossFit….

  11. cindylou says:

…And in true PCF cindylou fashion…..a post filled with spelling errors from me ;) Well, I guess there are somethings CrossFit cant change, my ability to spell and proof read ;)

Take your time to help not hurt. Or stop over and see it first hand……I will make sure to show you how we do it.

  17. chas says:

Whoever this Cindy chick is your stupid and you have no frickin clue what your talking about. The only reason Your being a hater is prob cuz u don’t want to get off ur lazy butt and put some effort in.:( btw it’s sad that u hate cf cuz ur missing out

    • Cindy says:

I am not saying that I am “hating on” CrossFit as a whole, I am saying that the way your gym members view it is a little unhealthy. Based off of the blogs I’ve read it seems like your gym is a mix between The Biggest Loser and a Joel Osteen style mega-church. Ladies and Gentlemen, CrossFit is not the end-all-be-all of exercise, but even if it was then it would still just be EXERCISE.

Oh and I may not be the fastest at every workout, but I won’t start crying when I PR even though I am proud of myself.

  25. Mindy says:

Hard not to comment on this…unbelievable…but, to each his own….I can respect differing opinions. I personally think if you are not emotional about such things, then you have no connection with what you, and your CF family members, are striving for! (And by emotional, I don’t necessarily mean tears..just a burning passion that moves you in whatever way it needs to.) Hell, I was an emotional wreck all last week knowing I had to leave PCF for awhile…it truly is like leaving family. It is support like no other….and without it, there is a hole.

By the way, congrats on all the PCF accomplishments…a pull-up, muscle-up, trainers in the making…and all that other good stuff! Celebrating with you from afar! :)

    • Cindy says:

Mindy, you really were an emotional wreck because you had to find a new gym to work out in? Certainly you are joking about this. I understand that your gym might be like your family and that is fine, but holy crap ladies, you are a mess.
